Every now and then, you get a hen that just won’t stop brooding! This method may seem harsh, but it works wonders to break the broodiness. When Butter gets broody, the rest of the Epic Thickies get frustrated, and soon they’re laying eggs everywhere—creating a lot of drama in the coop! So, we make the trade-off to keep the whole flock happy. We also make sure she has access to the hen house at night so she’s not left out in the cold. Breaking a Broody Hen. 👉A broody hen is “called” to sit on a nest to hatch eggs. 👉She growls & puffs up her feathers when approached to protect her nest and scare away intruders. 👉If she is not going to be permitted to hatch chicks, she should be “broken up” properly, quickly, and KINDLY.
