In March, ”Goldilocks”, a loggerhead sea turtle, was found stranded with a large fishing hook in her throat, weak, and covered in epibiota. Epibiota is algae, barnacles, and other small marine life that attach to a turtle’s shell when they begin to move slow due to illness or injury. In healthy turtles regular swimming helps prevent this buildup. NEW patient alert! “Luna Diane”. 🐢🦀 Luna Diane, a large Loggerhead sea turtle, was spotted by a recreational boater late Sunday, who contacted the US Coast Guard Key West Sector. The Coast Guard rescued the turtle on the water, and our team met them at the dock with the Turtle Hospital ambulance. 🚑 She’s covered in barnacles, and a crab can even be seen exiting and entering the wound in her shell where a boat had hit her. 💔 Luna Diane has a long road of recovery ahead. Turmeric, a 36.2 pound loggerhead sea turtle was released back into the Gulf this morning along with a smaller green sea turtle. Turmeric was hooked by a recreational fisherman at Gulf State Park Pier on August 3rd. The GSP team acted quickly to secure the turtle and it was transported to the Gulfarium C.A.R.E.
